Habitat
Giraffe habitat consists of the savanna, dry, and open woodland. Their favorite kind of trees to feed on is the acacia tree. This tree is small and thorny which with the giraffes' long tongues can maneuver around the thorns to reach the leaves. Giraffes also enjoy to eat the leaves of mimosas and apricots.
You will never see a giraffe try to eat any type of low vegetation because it is hard for them to reach down to eat off the ground.
History has shown that giraffe existed throughout most of Africa. Today giraffe's only live in the sub-Saharan regions of the continent, ranging from
southern Mali to Kenya, and south to northern South Africa.
During the dry season giraffes gather around rivers and waterholes, but move into open, spacious woodlands during the rain. These migrations usually cover about 20-30 km. This animal is not constantly having to look for a water source because they can go for weeks or even months without water!
The time of the day are the most active is during the night/cooler hours. But during the heat of the day is their resting period. Giraffes only need about 2 hours of sleep a day to function. . Expanding human activities, hunting, and changes in climate have put certain species of giraffes in endangerment. In recent years, especially in western Africa where a race of the giraffes live called peralta, Have been classified as endangered by the IUCN.
